USCIS published a final rule in the Federal Register changing the admission period for individuals in the F (academic student), J (exchange visitor), and I (foreign information media representative) classifications from duration of status to admission for a fixed time period. The rule has been classified as a major rule subject to congressional review and will take effect on September 15, 2026.
