Where Atlanta Immigration Cases Are Decided

Most Atlanta-area cases pass through one of two federal systems. Knowing which one your case is in tells you what kind of help you need.

Immigration Services for Atlanta Families, Workers and Businesses

Family and marriage green cards

A U.S. citizen can petition for a spouse, children, parents and siblings; a green card holder can petition for a spouse and unmarried children. We prepare Form I-130 petitions, adjustment of status packages, consular processing, fiancé (K-1) visas, removal of conditions and waivers, and we prepare couples for the marriage interview. See our family immigration lawyer page, how long an I-130 takes and removing conditions on a green card.

Citizenship and naturalization

Most green card holders can apply for citizenship after five years, or three years if they are married to and living with a U.S. citizen. We review travel history, tax and criminal records before filing Form N-400, because those are the issues that most often cause problems at the interview. Read more on our naturalization lawyer page and how long naturalization takes.

Deportation defense and ICE detention

We represent clients in removal proceedings at the Atlanta immigration courts and the Stewart Immigration Court, including bond hearings, cancellation of removal, asylum, adjustment of status before the judge, and appeals. If a family member has been detained, call us right away and do not let them sign anything they do not understand. See our deportation defense lawyer page and deportable offenses for green card holders.

Work visas and employment green cards

Metro Atlanta employers and professionals rely on H-1B, L-1 and O-1 visas, PERM labor certification and EB-1, EB-2 and EB-3 green cards. H-1B rules changed several times in 2025 and 2026. Check the USCIS H-1B page before filing. More on our employment immigration lawyer page.

Investors and business owners (EB-5 and E-2)

Investors can seek a green card through the EB-5 program or, if they are nationals of a treaty country, an E-2 treaty investor visa to run a U.S. business. We also help companies set up compliant hiring and transfers. See our EB-5 visa lawyer page, our business immigration attorney page and how an E-2 lawyer helps you invest.

Students (F-1, OPT and STEM OPT)

Many international students study at Atlanta-area universities. A 2026 DHS rule would have ended “duration of status” for F-1 students on September 15, 2026, but a federal court blocked it on September 14, 2026. As of October 2026, students are still admitted for duration of status while the government appeals, so watch for changes. We help with status problems, SEVIS issues, OPT and STEM OPT, and the move to H-1B or a green card. See our F-1 student visa lawyer page.

U visas, T visas and VAWA

Survivors of certain crimes, human trafficking or abuse by a U.S. citizen or permanent resident family member may qualify for protection and a path to a green card without relying on the abuser. VAWA self-petitions are confidential. Read do you need a VAWA lawyer?, VAWA self-petition explained and U visa requirements.

Metro Atlanta Communities We Serve

From our Norcross office we work with clients in Atlanta, Duluth, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Chamblee, Doraville, Lawrenceville, Marietta and the rest of Georgia. Because immigration is federal law, we also represent clients in other states and abroad through online consultations. If you live in Gwinnett County, our Norcross immigration lawyer page has more local details.

How Working With Us Starts

  1. Book a consultation. It is a 30-minute meeting for $175, in Norcross or online.
  2. Bring your documents. Passports, I-94, any USCIS notices, court papers and criminal records if you have any. Our consultation checklist lists what to gather.
  3. Get a plan. The attorney explains your options, the risks, and the forms and evidence your case needs. If you hire us, you sign a written retainer agreement that sets out the scope of work and fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have an immigration attorney in Atlanta, GA?

Our office is in Norcross, not inside Atlanta city limits, and our attorneys represent Atlanta clients at the USCIS Atlanta Field Office and the Atlanta immigration courts. Many Atlanta clients meet with us online and come to Norcross only when it helps.

How do I choose an immigration lawyer in Atlanta?

Ask whether the lawyer regularly handles your type of case and the office or court where it will be decided, who will work on your file, and what the fee covers. Confirm the person is a licensed attorney: only attorneys and accredited representatives may give immigration legal advice. Be wary of anyone who promises a result.

Do I need a green card lawyer, or can I file myself?

You are allowed to file on your own. A lawyer is most useful when there is a prior immigration violation, a criminal record, a past denial, time spent out of status, or a marriage that USCIS may question. Read 10 mistakes to avoid when applying for a green card.

Can a Georgia immigration attorney help if I live in another state?

Yes. Immigration law is federal, so a licensed attorney can represent you before USCIS and the immigration courts nationwide. We meet out-of-state clients online.

How much does an immigration lawyer in Atlanta cost?

Our consultation is $175 for 30 minutes. Legal fees for the case itself depend on the type of case and how complex it is, and we quote them after the consultation. Government filing fees are separate and change from time to time; see the USCIS fee schedule.

How long will my case take?

It depends on the form and the office. USCIS publishes current estimates on its processing times page, and our adjustment of status timeline explains the stages.

Consultations
